Hotel rooms are anonymous, remote, unreal, pretend spaces, ideal for make-believe and fantasy, venues for covert assignations. The more palatial with dramatic perspectives were a favourite of Helmut Newton; the more seedy can inject a salacious frisson to an image. Pornographic shoots sometimes happen in them.
